Frequently Asked Questions
Basics
What kind of photos can I test?
Single-person shots for dating apps, LinkedIn, and social profiles. Group shots, pets, and landscapes aren’t currently supported, and rarely help profiles anyway.
How accurate is PicScore?
Very! Our unique model is trained on millions of real human judgments. The results are closer to 10-20 opinions averaged together than any one person's opinion.
If your scores seem wrong, ask around. Most of the time, others will agree with PicScore.
Is PicScore free?
No, but it's way more powerful than a free tool. We have subscription plans for casual users, meticulous optimizers and professional photographers.
Can I upgrade or downgrade?
Yes, you can switch anytime. For upgrades, new plans start immediately. For downgrades and cancellations, changes apply at the end of your billing cycle.
Privacy
Who can see my photos?
Just you and our AI. Your images are never shown to other users.
Do you sell my data?
No. PicScore is funded exclusively by subscriptions. Your data stays yours.
What happens when I delete a photo?
It’s permanently erased and cannot be recovered.
Why PicScore
Why shouldn't I pick my own photos?
Research is clear: we're all bad at judging our own photos.
That shot you thought was fun and quirky might actually seem weird and off-putting to strangers.
That shot you thought was boring and unremarkable and might actually seem authentic and charming to others.
Users are consistently surprised at how scores differ from their expectations.
Why not just ask people for feedback?
Human feedback is ideal, but it's slower and requires many opinions for reliable results.
PicScore is fast and consistent, so you can test small changes and iterate quickly.
I already get likes on dating apps but people there are awful. Why do I need PicScore?
It’s not just about “likes.” When your photos show confidence, approachability, and self-respect, the people who see them respond differently. Better photos = better attention = better outcomes.
Using PicScore
Do I need all new photos for my dating profile?
Not necessarily. Often, just removing one or two bad photos, adding an overlooked gem from your camera roll, and taking one more well-planned planned shot can (seriously!) 10x your dating app results.
Once you see the difference, you might start having fun with it :)
Why do different photos of me get different scores?
Small changes can totally shift how people view you. Tweaks like camera positioning, how relaxed you look, or how natural your expression feels can change how people perceive you. Two photos taken seconds apart can send very different signals, and PicScore reveals those subtle differences.
What are some creative ways to use PicScore?
Most people think they know what makes a strong impression… until they test it. That’s why users love experimenting with things like:
- Outfits to see which colors and styles actually make them look their best
- Hairstyles, hair colors, and facial hair to find the version of themselves that reads the cleanest and most polished
- Glasses or makeup styles to learn which choices highlight their features instead of hiding them
- Light edits to figure out what looks naturally flattering vs. obviously edited
- Background cleanup to see which settings distract and which make them stand out
Understanding Scores
Whose opinions is PicScore predicting?
Primarily Western audiences from the U.S. and Europe, although we anticipate adding location targeting when we can successfully model it.
Is PicScore biased?
Well, yes, because it models the biases of humans. You can't literally tell how smart or trustworthy someone is from a photo, but people make decisions on who to date, hire or follow based on photos every day.
PicScore offers visibility into those biases so you can make them work for you.
Why are my scores low? Am I ugly?
Probably not. Factors like lighting, background, expression, pose, and clothing matter far more than people realize.
Just because a low-effort selfie scored poorly doesn't mean you're doomed. Users get a wide range of scores depending on how they present themselves.
With the right mindset, PicScore can be a powerful tool for self discovery and improvement.
How do I improve my photo scores?
A few quick changes can spruce up a photo:
- Cropping: Tighten the frame to remove distractions and highlight your face or upper body.
- Lighting: Brighten the photo or adjust shadows so your face is clear and defined.
- Background: Use a cleaner or simpler backdrop so the focus stays on you.
- Expression/Eye Contact: Try subtle variations, such as a soft smile or a half-smile. Experiment with looking into the camera or being more candid.
- Wardrobe: Swap in a shirt or outfit that fits well and complements your style.
- Pose/Body language: Keep it open, relaxed, and inviting. Avoid stiff or closed-off postures.
Then upload your variations to PicScore and compare; the best is often one you didn’t expect.
Are my scores true about me?
No. PicScore can only predict the impression people will get from a photo. It can't tell you how smart, likable, or attractive you are in person.
